Dental veneers are an excellent and minimally invasive option to improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom made shells of tooth colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These bonding agents change your appearance by giving you an artificial tooth that looks and feels just like natural enamel! Valery Sweeny, DDS offers customized veneers from our practice in Silver Lake, to correct a variety of dental imperfections. Call or schedule an appointment online today to learn if veneers are right for you.
Veneers Q & A
What are dental veneers?
Veneers are thin custom-made shells that cover the fronts of your teeth. Typically made of porcelain, veneers are strong and stain resistant. They’re made to specifically fit each individual patient and are permanently bonded to your teeth for long-lasting results.
When you come to Dr. Sweeny with concerns about the appearance of your teeth, she carefully examines your teeth to determine the best treatment to give you the smile you want. Veneers are a popular choice because they provide a picture-perfect smile with a procedure that is minimally invasive.
What dental imperfections do veneers correct?
Dr. Sweeny and her associates install veneers to cover a variety of dental imperfections, including:
- Deep discoloration
- Unevenly sized or shaped teeth
- Gaps and overcrowding
- Broken or chipped teeth
How are veneers fitted?
Dr. Sweeny typically fits veneers in two pain-free visits. During your first visit, Dr. Sweeny carefully removes a thin layer of the enamel on your teeth that are being fitted with veneers. This allows your veneers to fit flush against your teeth for a smooth, natural appearance.
Then, Dr. Sweeny takes impressions of your teeth. She sends these molds to a dental lab where your veneers are custom-made to fit your mouth precisely.
You will leave the office with a temporary veneer to protect your teeth over the next week or so while your permanent veneers are being made.
At your second visit, Dr. Sweeny removes your temporary veneer and checks the fit of your new, permanent veneer. If the veneer fits and your bite is correct, she permanently bonds the veneers to your teeth using a special dental cement. Then she buffs and shines your veneers until they shine like natural teeth.
How should I take care of my veneers?
You take care of porcelain dental veneers just like your natural teeth. You need to brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and floss daily. You should also have routine dental checkups and professional cleanings with Dr. Sweeny and her team every six months. Porcelain veneers are stain resistant and with proper care should provide a beautiful and healthy looking smile for up to 20 years.
